Otherwise described as "family kayaks", these kayaks are designed for flat water use, although most can handle a bit of "chop". They are ideal for creeks, bays, estuaries and other inland waterways. Recreational kayaks are ideal for beginners and anyone not wanting to venture into anything more serious, and are usually designed for stability rather than speed. Single recreational kayaks are usually under 4m long while the doubles may be a bit longer. Most recreational kayaks do not have a rudder although some may have a skeg for better tracking.
